November 2020: Student Affinity Groups

Thanks to the 30 people who joined our zoom meet last week to hear about Student Affinity groups!  If you missed it, we had delightful presentations and discussion with 5 members of Beaumont Faculty who lead student affinity groups:  Bryan Butcher with the Black Student Union, Dianne Brennen with the Queer Straight Alliance, Christopher Eltagonde with the Asian Pacific Islander Union, Crystal Marion with Girls of Color, Oscar Campos with the MEChA Latinx Group.  We were also joined by Beaumont Principal, Harriette Vimegnon, and Assistant Principal, Robbie Davis.

  • For a reminder about why Student Affinity groups are important, check out the resources/information in our November Newsletter.  Also, read this FAQ from Lakeside School.  Though Lakewood is not part of PPS, the FAQ is relevant for any student affinity group work.

  • Here are slides that highlight what the groups have been doing.

  • A few leaders suggested movies and videos to watch including HBO's Soul of America and the web series, I Put The Bi in Bitter

  • New Group:  Starting Monday, November 9th, from 12:15 - 1 pm, Beaumont Middle School will be hosting a lunch group for our LatinX community. Please join our counselor, Mr. Campos, in the Google Meet Room. Code: bms-grupo
